The Congress on Monday continued with its aggressive attack on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images] by saying that Sonia Gandhi's [Images] recent remarks were based on the Supreme Court's observations and cases like the fake encounter of Soharabuddin Sheikh.
"Look at what has happened in the Best Bakery and other riot cases, which were shifted out of the state by the Supreme Court. The apex court had compared Modi with Roman emperor Nero and has made several other observations against him," Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal said in Ahmedabad on Monday.
"The encounter of Soharabuddin Sheikh, where IPS officers like Vanzara are behind bars, could not have taken place without political backing," Sibal said.
"The remarks made by the Congress President were based on these cases and observations," he added.
The Union Minister was referring to recent remarks of Sonia Gandhi in which she had said, "Those ruling Gujarat are beimaan and maut ke saudagar" (dishonest and merchants of death).
The BJP has filed a complaint with the Election Commission regarding Gandhi's speech at Chikli in Navsari district.
"Let the Election Commission decide about it," Sibal said when his comments were sought in this regard.
In a reply to the allegations made by Sonia Gandhi, Modi had on Sunday said that the Congress is hand in glove with the merchants of death as it is trying to save Afzal Guru, the main conspirator in the Parliament attack case, from capital punishment.
