Angered by the recent spurt in violence and the bid on the life of Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed slammed those 'who raised a hue and cry over human rights violations by security forces but maintain silence when militants kill'.

"Innocent people were being made victims of senseless violence," the chief minister said addressing a function in Srinagar. He appealed for an end to killings and asked the people to strengthen the hands of the government to establish peace and development in the state.

Mufti asked the 'perpetrators of violence' to shed double standards ."How can you kill the very people you claim to be your supporters?" he asked  "My government with the support of the people has created a conducive  atmosphere for peace and development that would not be allowed to be  vitiated."

Sayeed, however, reiterated that the policy of reconciliation and dialogue with Pakistan would be carried forward ."There is a national consensus on the reconciliation and normalisation  process and the new UPA government at the Centre was committed to take  forward the process initiated by the previous BJP led government."
