December 22, 2004 14:43 IST
A Pakistani court has granted bail to Asif Ali Zardari, the husband of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on Wednesday, a day after he was re-arrested in Islamabad, report agencies. Zardari, who was detained after he failed to attend a hearing in a murder trial in Karachi, is likely to be released later Wednesday after his lawyers deposit Rs 300,000 as bail.
He had been earlier granted bail on November 22, after eight years in jail on various charges ranging from murder to corruption.

He was detained at Islamabad Airport as he arrived from Karachi to address a rally in Rawalpindi. The arrest led to clashes between police and hundreds of his supporters who had come to greet him.
The arrest was in connection with the murder of a judge and his son in Karachi in 1996, a charge which Zardari denies.
