After remaining in captivity for over fortnight, Siddhant Parmar, the eight-year-old son of a bank officer and nephew of Bihar Sugarcane Minister Raghvendra  Pratap Singh was released on Tuesday at Raja Bazar area of Patna, the police said.

After the kidnappers released Parmar his family members took him home, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Amit Kumar told PTI.

On getting information the police reached the boy's house, Kumar said. The boy, he added, was in good health.

The victim's family might have paid some ransom, the SP said.

Siddhant, a standard two student of a private school, was abducted by unidentified miscreants from Jagdeo Path area in Patna on July 24, while he was waiting for his school bus.

Three motorcycle-borne criminals pushed his grandfather K P Singh to ground and lifted Siddhant and his brother Shantanu.

But after his grandfather raised an alarm, they left behind Shantanu and took Siddhant with them.

Siddhant's abduction had triggered widespread protest in the state capital. Bank employees had struck work in Patna on July 28. They had planned to strike work in banks across the state on August five but postponed it at the request of Indian Banks Association.

The Bharatiya Janata Party had last week given a bandh call in parts of west Patna areas to protest delay in release of Siddhant.

Schools had also organised protest march and submitted a memorandum to Bihar Governor M Rama Jois demanding immediate release of Siddhant.

The governor had last week also made a humanitarian appeal to the families of the kidnappers to request them to release the boy.

The police had rounded up over a dozen people in connection with the kidnapping but they could not make any significant breakthrough. They got some vital clues on Monday with the arrest of one Raju Mian from Bahnwar Pokhar area.

On the basis of information provided by him police conducted raids in Khagaul areas but did not achieve anything, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sachivalaya Arshad Zama told PTI.
