No fresh violence in SuratkalWhile the curfew-bound Suratkal and surrounding areas have remained violence-free since Sunday night, a stray incident of arson was reported near the port city of Mangalore. Police said a shop was torched near Kulur even as the port city was limping back to normalcy. City buses resumed services Monday. The service between Mangalore and Mulki on the national highway, suspended Sunday noon, was also resumed. All educational institutions, however, will remain closed till Wednesday. Meanwhile, Suratkal, where the trouble began on December 30, wore a deserted look as curfew has been re-imposed till Tuesday following fresh trouble on Sunday. Only patrol vehicles could be seen on the roads. Bantwal, where three petty shops and a tourist car were burnt Sunday, appeared normal. The violence has claimed seven lives and left over 60 injured so far. UNI
