Jaya accuses BJP of 'divide and rule' policy

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham chief J Jayalalitha today accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of still pursuing a "divide and rule" policy and expressed surprise that the party was now pontificating to her.

In a five-page lengthy statement in response to BJP state unit general secretary L Ganesan's statement that Jayalalitha resented her party's allies like the Pattali Makkal Katchi, Marumalarchi DMK and the Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress taking up issues directly with the BJP, Jayalalitha indirectly accused the latter of "setting her allies in Tamil Nadu against her and encouraging them to devise their own individual pathways".

This is the second time Jayalalitha has accused the BJP of dividing her allies or attempting to divide her own parliamentary party.

At a media conference a few months ago, Jayalalitha had accused the BJP of trying to divide the AIADMK parliamentary party.

"Forgetting that only under my initiative the leaders of these parties are now talking directly to the BJP, I am indeed surprised at the pontification of those accustomed to divide and rule," Jayalalitha said.
