Sensex surges 150 points at close

The Sensex on Thursday opened with a gain of 8 points. Buying across the board thereafter saw the index gaining steadily.
After registering an intra day high of 5,750 in mid-noon deals, the Sensex finally ended the day with a whopping gain of 150 points at 5,741.
The Nifty added 48 points to end at 1820.
Most of the stocks ended with gains. Among heavyweights, Reliance was up 3.3% (Rs 18) at Rs 556. HLL ended marginally higher at Rs 155 while ITC ended 4% higher at Rs 1081.
While Infosys advanced nearly 3.5% (Rs 169) to Rs 5,107, Satyam was up 4% (Rs 12) at Rs 305. Wipro gained Rs 12 to finish at Rs 1371.
ACC was up nearly 3% (Rs 7) at Rs 261. Grasim advanced 2.5% (Rs 27) to Rs 1,096.
BHEL gained nearly 5.4% (Rs 32.5) to close at Rs 637. However, ONGC ended with a loss of Rs 9 at Rs 831.
Auto and bank scrips too ended with gains due to all round buying.
