The Election Commission on Monday said the level of coercion in Nagaland had come down following swift action by the state government to check underground groups ahead of the February 26 assembly polls.

"Threats are nil. We are getting daily reports and closely monitoring the situation in Nagaland," EC sources said.

Following threats by the Isac-Muivah and Khaplang factions of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim, the commission had asked the state government to deal firmly with them.

"The commission is in receipt of reports stating that the ambience generated by the ceasefire agreement in the state is being mis-utilised by the NSCN (I-M) and NSCN (K) cadres to intimidate the public in the state" the EC had said in a communication to Nagaland Chief Secretary R S Pandey.

It sought a day-to-day report from the government on the steps taken to effectively to ensure free and fair polls.
