Highlights:
Bangalore:
More than seven hours were lost to rain and poor light. This was the first Test match in which no balls and wides were debited to bowler's account. Javed Miandad became the second Pakistan batsman after Zaheer Abbas to complete 4000 runs in Test cricket. After 27 minutes of confusion concerning regulations governing number of overs to be bowled on the final day, during which time the Pakistan team had left the field, Sunil Gavaskar (87) was allowed to continue his innings. He completed 28th Test hundred off the first ball of the last of the mandatory overs.
Jullundur:
The game was always likely to be drawn after Zaheer Abbas had rejected a request from the ground authorities to continue the match on the rest day, following the loss of third day to rain. Kapil Dev claimed the wicket of Mohsin Khan off the first ball of the match. Anshuman Gaekwad recorded India's first double century against Pakistan; it took him 652 minutes (426 balls) and was then the slowest in all first class matches in India.
Nagpur:
This match completed the third rubber between the two countries in which every Test has been drawn. It began with one of the participants 600 miles away in Mumbai. Sandeep Patil not in the selected squad of 14 players was summoned when Mohinder Amarnath withdrew because of a fever shortly before the start. Flown by a special chartered Maharashtra State aircraft, Patil arrived after the first day's play had ended. Nagpur's only previous Test took place in October 1969.
