Adam Gilchrist put the Zimbabwean bowling attack to the sword in the fourth match of the VB Series, scoring 172 runs off just 126 deliveries. Gilchrist's innings is now the highest by any wicketkeeper in the shorter version of the game.
Gilchrist bettered his own 154 made against Sri Lanka at Melbourne in 1998-99. Five of the top 10 scores made by wicketkeepers stand in his name.
Gilchrist's innings is also the tenth joint highest score by a batsman in the history of the limited overs game. In fact, he missed the opportunity to post the highest score by an Australian batsman in LOIs by just one run.
Gilchrist, however, holds another world record now. His 150 came off just 110 balls, which is the fastest by any batsman in LOIs. The previous record was held by West Indian Brian Lara, who took 111 balls for his 150 against Sri Lanka in a Champions Trophy match at Sharjah in 1995-96.
