...Anil Kumble's catch of Chris Cairns makes him the fielder with the most catches (13) in the Cup . Clive Lloyd and Desmond Haynes, Kapil Dev, Graeme Hick and Cairns himself have taken 12 catches each.
...Mohd Azharuddin was captain for the 23rd time in a World Cup, bettering the record of Pakistan's Imran Khan (22 matches).
...Srinath now has 28 WC wickets, equalling Kapil Dev's record for most wickets by an Indian in the Cup.
...Wasim Akram recorded the 22nd duck of his career on Friday. The most ducks in LOIs by any batsman.
...Geoff Allott's wicket of Herschelle Gibbs was his 19th of this tournament. This makes him the highest wicket taker in a single Cup. The previous record holders with 18 wickets each: India's Roger Binny in 1983, Australia's Craig McDermott in 1987 and Pakistan's Wasim Akram in 1992.
...Venkatesh Prasad's 5-27 was the best figures by an Indian bowler in the Cup. The previous best was 5-31 by Robin Singh against Sri Lanka at Taunton on May 26.
...Sadagoppan Ramesh became the tenth opening partner of

...Inzamam ul Haq's run-out was the 30th of his career. He now joins India's Azharuddin and Sri Lankan Arjuna Ranatunga in the number two slot among batsman with 30 run-outs in their career.
Wasim Akram has the maximum run-outs - 31. On run-out frequency, Inzi is far ahead than any contemporary batsman - at 19.48%.
South African Dave Richardson had a RO frequency of 36.36% (16 run-outs in 44 dismissed innings).
...The 21 runs conceded by Shane Warne to Robin Singh (6,2,6,1) and Ajay Jadeja (6,0) was the maximum by any Australian bowler in an over in the WC
...This was the tenth duck of Sachin Tendulkar's career in his 216th match and his first in the WC after 20 matches.
It was also Tendulkar's first duck against the Australians in 22 matches.
...Ridley Jacobs (49*) by carrying his bat through the West Indies innings became only the fourth batsman in LOI history to achieve this rare feat.

...For the first time in World Cup history all ten batsmen (from New Zealand) were dismissed, caught in an innings.
...Sachin Tendulkar won the 33rd man of the match award of his career at Bristol on Sunday. It was his fifth such prize in the World Cup. Viv Richards and Graham Gooch have also won 5 MoM awards in the World Cup.

...Vivian Richards, Rameez Raja and Mark Waugh have the unique distinction of having scored three hundreds in the World Cup. Mark Waugh's feat is even more commendable because he scored all his three hundreds in a single World Cup tournament (1996).
... Steve Waugh of Australia has the maximum number of not-outs (7) in the World Cup followed by Indian speedster Javagal Srinath with 6.
...Kapil Dev holds the record for most number of catches (12) alongwith Clive Lloyd and Desmond Haynes in the World Cup. Clive Lloyd took just 17 matches to get to the top of the list while Desmond Haynes followed with 25 matches and Kapil Dev took 26 matches to get there.
… it was not Jayasuriya, Sachin Tendulkar or even Ajay Jadeja who hit the most number of sixes in the 1996 World Cup. It was a southpaw from Sri Lanka, Asanka Gurusinghe who hit the highest number of sixes (11) in that World Cup. Sanath Jayasuriya came a close second with 8 sixes in as many matches(6).
...Gary Gilmour of Australia and Asantha De Mel of Sri Lanka are the only two bowlers in the World Cup to have taken 5 wickets in an innings twice. Surprisingly Gary Gilmour has played only two World Cup matches in 1975 at an economy rate of 2.58 with a bowling performance of 6-14 against England in the 1975 semi-finals.
… Krish Srikkanth has the honor of having scored the maximum number of ducks in the World Cup and Kapil Dev has played the maximum number of matches (26) without scoring a duck. A gentleman by the name of Sir Vivian Richards comes a close second with 23 matches.
