Pak, Bangla in tune-up ODI

Pakistan and Bangladesh will meet in a limited overs fixture on Tuesday, March 16.

The Bangladesh cricket authorities on Sunday requested Pakistan to play a day-night fixture, since at that point it was pretty clear that the final of the Asian Test Championship, at the Bangabandhu Stadium in Dhaka, would not last into the 5th day.

The Pakistan team and board readily agreed to the extra game.

While nailing down the fixture, the two boards decided that even if Sri Lanka managed to drag the game into the fifth day, the one-dayer would still be played.

''If the Test ends on Monday, the other match will start on Tuesday afternoon, and if the Test goes into the fifth day, the one-dayer will start two hours after the conclusion of the Test,'' Ashraful Haq, secretary of the Bangladesh cricket board, said.

The fixture was sought by the Bangladesh board, under the prompting of coach Gordon Greenidge, in order to help the home team tune up for the World Cup.

Pakistan decided to accede to the request, in order to give its players a bit of practise ahead of the three-nation LOI series between India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, scheduled to start later this week. Pakistan and Sri Lanka play the opening fixture on March 19.
