'All Over the World' -- the official song of World Cup'99After Ricky Martin composed The Cup of Life for the 1998 soccer World Cup in France, pop star Dave Stewart of Eurythmics has joined the bandwagon with All Over the World, the official song for the cricket World Cup tournament beginning in England on May 14. The pop icon, a cricket freak, has written, produced and sung the song that aims to attract a broader audience to the game. "I was writing about how warm people can be and that sport can bring people together. Generally this song is about the world coming together. It's not easy to make a video to go with cricket music and I'm quite glad the song was a typical sports song, where I'm singing 'he hits the ball' or something like that." Stewart commented: "All Over the World is a terrifically catchy song. If it can help create the same atmosphere as we experienced in this country during Euro '96, then we should be in for a really great carnival." To celebrate the launch, Stewart was joined by supermodel Caprice, Sports Minister Tony Banks, TV presenter Barry Norman and comedian Mark Little for a unique net practice session at the MCC Indoor Cricket School at Lord's Cricket Ground. World Cup'99 will be the biggest cricketing event so far in the game's short history, being played over 21 venues throughout England as well as in Scotland, Ireland and Holland.
