The last WC match to be played here was the 1983 WC semi-final when India beat England by six wickets. Glenn McGrath's figures of 5-14 was his personal best bettering the previous best of 5-40 against Sri Lanka at Adelaide 24-1-1999. was the best figures by an Australian against the West Indies in LOIs. The previous best was the 5-24 by Mark Waugh at Melbourne on 15-12-1992. was also the best figures by any bowler against West Indies in the WC. The previous best was the 5-48 by Australian Gary Gilmour at Lord's in 1975. was the fourth best figures for Australia in LOIs and the third best figures for Australia in the WC. was the third best figures by any bowler against West Indies in LOIs after India's Anil Kumble's 6-12 at Calcutta on 27-11-1993 and South African Shaun Pollock's 6-35 at East London on 24-1-1999. was the best figures at this ground in LOIs. The previous best was 4-8 by England's Chris Old against Canada on 16-6-1979. The 22 run partnership between Ridley Jacobs and Courtney Walsh was West Indies' best against Australia in the WC. The previous best was the paltry nine runs between Winston Benjamin and Andy Cummins at Melbourne in the 1992 WC. Jacobs (49*) by carrying his bat throughout the West Indies' innings of 110 became the only fourth batsman in LOI history to achieve this rare feat. The other three opening batsmen who remained unbeaten while their side were dismissed were Zimbabwean Grant Flower (84*/205) against England at Sydney on 15-12-1994; Pakistani Saeed Anwar (103*/219) against Zimbabwe at Harare on 22-2-1995 and Englishman Nick Knight (125*/246) against Pakistan at Nottingham on 1-9-1996. By conceding just 11 runs in his 10-over spell, Shane Warne (10-4-11-3) recorded the second most economical 10-over spell by an Australian in LOIs. The best spell still remains with Mick Malone who had figures of 10-5-9-2 also against West Indies at Melbourne on 10-1-1982. However, Warne's spell was the best by an Australian in the WC. The previous best figures was the 10-3-15-2 by Mike Whitney against Zimbabwe at Hobart in the 1992 WC. Curtly Ambrose now has the maximum wickets (220) among the West Indians. With three wickets in this match he moves ahead of team-mate Courtney Walsh (217). McGrath was winning his third Man of the match award in his 91st match. It was his first in a WC match.
