Statistical Highlights 24th match: Pakistan v New Zealand at Derby on 28-5-1999

• This match was the 1466th in Limited over international (LOI) history.

• This match was the 182nd in World Cup history.

• This match was Pakistan 429th and New Zealand's 327th in LOIs. Pakistan has now equalled the record of Australia - with most appearances in LOIs.

• This match was Pakistan's 41st and New Zealand's 39th in the WC.

• This match was the 49th meeting between the two sides in LOIs and their sixth in the WC.

• The County Cricket Ground, Nottingham Road at Derby (Derbyshire) was hosting its only second LOI match. The first match played here was between New Zealand and Sri Lanka on 18-6-1983. A ground steeped in history, until 1939, it was used as a racecourse. And way back in 1886, the FA Cup Final replay between Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion was held at this ground. A new pavilion, scoreboard, as well as the stands are the latest additions to this ground.

• South African Rudi Koertzen was umpiring in his 50th match. He becomes the second South African umpire after Cyril Mithley (58 matches) and 13th umpire in LOI history to do so.

• By running out his partner Abdur Razzaq, Ijaz Ahmed during his career spanning 212 innings has now been involved in running out 43 of his batting partners. Ijaz is placed second in the all-time list after Australian Steve Waugh, who has the dubious record distinction of running out 46 partners. Later in the innings, Ijaz himself was runout for the 15th occasion. This means he has been involved in a total 58 run-outs during his career.

• Although, Inzamam-ul Haq has been run-out on 29 occasions, he has been involved in his partners run-outs in only 23 occasions (including the one of Ijaz) in 176 innings.

• Inzamam ul Haq (73*) on 40 reached his 6000th run in his 186th match of his career. He becomes the fifth Pakistani and the 15th batsman in LOIs to do so.

• A few minutes later, Moin (19) on 16 reached his 2000th run in his 133rd match and 111th innings. He becomes the 12th Pakistani and the 81st batsman in LOIs to do so. He also becomes the fourth wicket-keeper batsman to reach this milestone.

• The partnership of 29 runs between Inzamam and Azhar Mahmood equals Pakistan's best for the 8th wicket against New Zealand in the WC. Wasim Bari and Abdul Qadir at Birmingham in the 1983 WC had also put on 29 runs for the 8th wicket .

• Geoff Allott's 4-64 was the best figures by a New Zealander against Pakistan in a WC match. The previous best was the 3-20 by Richard Hadlee at Birmingham in 1983.

• Inzamam's unbeaten 73 was the highest in a LOI match at this venue. The previous highest was the unbeaten 64 by Sri Lankan Roy Dias against New Zealand in 1983.

• Nathan Astle in the last WC against England at Ahmedabad had the distinction of scoring a 101 - on his WC debut. Since then in the last nine innings his scores makes interesting reading: 0; 1; 2; 6; 1; 4; 4; 2; 0. That's 20 runs in nine innings @ an average of 2.22 runs per innings.

• Craig McMillan (20) on 8, reached his 1000th run in his 43rd match. He becomes the 20th New Zealander and the 132nd batsman in LOIs to do so.

• Moin Khan's catch of Matthew Horne equals the WC's record for the maximum dismissals by a wicket-keeper. Playing in his 14th WC match, Moin now has 22 dismissals (19ct+3st) to equal fellow-Pakistani Wasim Bari who too has 22 dismissals (18ct+4st) in 14 matches. Moin now needs just one more dismissal to go ahead of Bari.

• Inzamam ul Haq's catch of Roger Twose was his 50th of his career in his 186th match. He becomes the fifth Pakistani fielder and 33rd player in LOI to do so.

• Adam Parore's duck was his ninth of his career in 118 matches. He now joins former team-mate John Wright with maximum 'ducks' for New Zealand in LOIs.

• The partnership of 83 runs between Stephen Fleming and Chris Harris was New Zealand's best ever for the seventh wicket in the WC. The previous best was the 70 runs between Jeremy Coney and Richard Hadlee against England at Birmingham in the 1983 WC. The partnership earlier had surpassed New Zealand's best against Pakistan in the WC which was 39 between Shane Thomson and Parore at Lahore in the 1996 WC. The partnership was also the best by any team in the WC against Pakistan for the seventh wicket. The previous best was the 61 runs between Scottish batsman Gavin Hamilton and Alec Davies at Chester-le-Street on 20-5-1999.

• The partnership of 46 runs between Harris and Dion Nash was New Zealand's best against Pakistan in the WC for the 8th wicket. The previous best was 35 between Coney and Warren Lees at Nottingham in 1983. • This was Pakistan's first victory over the Kiwis in three LOI matches. The latter had won the last two successive matches. However, it was Pakistan's fifth straight win over the New Zealanders in the WC. New Zealand had the distinction of winning the first ever WC encounter between the two sides at Birmingham in 1983, since then it has been Pakistan all the way.

• It was Inzamam ul Haq's 17th Man of the match award in his 186th match of his career. It was also his third in a WC match, which equals the maximum awards by a Pakistani player. Abdul Qadir & Aamer Sohail are the others with three awards in the WC.

• It was his second award in successive matches. Aamer Sohail was the only other Pakistani to do so - in the 1992 WC.
