Statistical Highlights 23rd match: Australia v Bangladesh at Chester-le-Street on 27-5-1999

• This match was the 1465th in Limited over international (LOI) history.

• This match was the 181st in World Cup history.

• This match was Australia's 429th and Bangladesh's 34th in LOIs. Australia has now appeared in the maximum matches than any other team in LOI history. It has now played one more LOI match than Pakistan (428).

• This match was Australia's 41st and Bangladesh's 4th in the WC.

• This match was the second meeting between the two sides in LOIs and the first in the WC. The teams first met at Sharjah on 30-4-1990 in the Australasia Cup. Australia won by 7 wickets.

• The Riverside Ground at Chester-le-Street (Durham) was hosting its only second LOI match. The first match played here was between Pakistan and Scotland on 20-5-1999.

• Mehrab Hossain (42) surpassed the previous highest by a Bangladeshi batsman against Australia which was the unbeaten 41 by Amin ul Islam at Sharjah on 30-4-1990. Later in the innings, Minhajul Abedin's unbeaten 53 bettered Mehrab's score.

• Minhajul Abedin now joins Akram Khan to become the only Bangladeshi batsmen to score back to back fifties in LOIs. Akram Khan had scored two successive fifties - 65 and 50* - in the recent tournament at Dhaka in March this year. Abedin had scored an unbeaten 68 in his previous match against Scotland at Edinburgh on 24-5-1999.

• Tom Moody's 3-25 was his best figures of his career. Playing in his 64th match he bettered his previous best of 3-39 against Zimbabwe at Ahmedabad on 3-4-1998.

• His figures are also the best by an Australian bowler against Bangladesh. The previous best figures were 2-22 held jointly by Steve Waugh and Peter Taylor at Sharjah on 30-4-1990.

• Ricky Ponting becomes the tenth fielder to take three catches - the most by a fielder in a WC match. He becomes the second Australian after Allan Border (v Zimbabwe at Hobart, 1992) to do so in a WC match.

• Adam Gilchrist's 63 now becomes the highest score by an Australian wicket-keeper in the WC. The previous highest was the unbeaten 52 by Rodney Marsh against West Indies at the Oval in the 1975 WC.

• Gilchirst's 63 was also the highest by an Australian batsman against Bangladesh. The previous highest being the unbeaten 54 by Peter Taylor at Sharjah on 30-4-1990.

• The two stumpings by Khaled Mashud equals the maximum by a keeper in the WC. Indians Syed Kirmani and Kiran More and Pakistani Wasim Bari are the only others to do so.

• Tom Moody scored the quickest fifty in WC history, which came in just 28 balls. The previous quickest was in 29 balls by Arjuna Ranatunga for Sri Lanka against Kenya at Kandy in the 1996 WC. It was also the quickest by a Australian in the WC. Mark Waugh had reached his 50th run in just 32 balls during his unbeaten innings of 66 against Zimbabwe at Hobart in 1992.

• Moody's all-round performance of 3 for 25 and the unbeaten 56 was the best ever performance by an Australian in the WC. The previous best performance had come from Steve Waugh when he scored a 55 and captured 2-28 against Zimbabwe at Hobart in the 1992 WC.

• This was Moody's fourth Man of the match award of his career in 64th match.
