Statistical Highlights 16th match: India v Kenya at Bristol, 23-5-1999

• This match was the 1458th in Limited over international (LOI) history.

• This match was the 174th in World Cup history.

• This match was India's 400th and Kenya's 28th in LOIs.

• This match was India's 39th and Kenya's 9th in the WC.

• This match was fifth meeting between the two sides and their second in the WC.

• The Sun Alliance County Ground at Bristol (Gloucestershire) was hosting its third LOI and WC match. It hosted the Pakistan-West Indies encounter on 16-5-1999.

• The last occasion Sachin Tendulkar went in at number four position in the WC was at Adelaide against South Africa on 15-3-1992.

• Tendulkar's 140 was his 22nd LOI hundred in his 213rd match and was his third WC hundred in his 17th match. Incidentally it was his first LOI hundred in the middle-order position.

• His 140 was the eighth highest score by a batsman in the WC and the second highest by an Indian in the WC after Kapil Dev's unbeaten 175 against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells in 1983.

• Tendulkar has now moved to the third position among WC's top run-getters with 974 runs. He has surpassed England's Graham Gooch who had 897 runs to his credit. Now only Pakistani Javed Miandad with 1083 runs and West Indian Viv Richards with 1013 runs have more runs than Tendulkar in the WC.

• With his third hundred in the WC, Tendulkar joins West Indian Viv Richards, Pakistani Rameez Raja and Australian Mark Waugh as batsmen with most hundreds in the WC.

• Tendulkar's hundred in 84 balls was fastest (in terms of balls) by an Indian in the WC. The previous fastest was by Sunil Gavaskar who scored his in 85 balls against New Zealand at Nagpur in the 1987 WC.

• It was also the third fastest in the WC after the West Indians Clive Lloyd's hundred in 82 balls (v Australia at Lord's in 1975) and Brian Lara's in 83 balls (v South Africa at Karachi in 1996)

• The 237 unbeaten run partnership between Dravid and Tendulkar surpassed the following records...

• on 79, the pair surpassed India's best against Kenya for the 3rd wicket (the previous best was 78 runs between Gagan Khoda and Ajay Jadeja at Bangalore on 20-5-1998).

• on 176, the pair surpassed India's best in LOIs against any country for the 3rd wicket (the previous best was the unbeaten 175 runs between Navjot Sidhu and M Azharuddin against Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 14-4-1995)

• on 176, the pair also surpassed India's best for any wicket and for the 3rd wicket in the WC (the previous best was the 175 runs between Tendulkar and M Azharuddin against Sri Lanka at Delhi in 1996 WC).

• on 208, the pair surpassed WC's best for any wicket and also for the 3rd wicket (the previous best was the 207 runs between the Waugh brothers, Mark and Steve also against Kenya at Visakhapatnam in the 1996 WC).

• on 214, the pair surpassed LOIs best for any wicket in England (the previous best was the 213 runs between England's Graeme Hick and Neil Fairbrother against West Indies at Lord's on 27-5-1991)

• on 231, the pair surpassed LOIs best for the 3rd wicket (the previous best was the 230 runs between Pakistanis Saeed Anwar and Ijaz Ahmed against India at Dhaka on 18-1-1998).

• With Rahul Dravid (104*) also scoring a hundred, this match provided the only second occasion in the WC history when two batsmen scored seperate hundreds in the same innings. The only other occasion was when West Indians Desmond Haynes (105) and Viv Richards (181) made hundreds against Sri Lanka at Karachi in 1987.

• India's total of 329-2 in 50 overs was its highest ever in any LOI or WC match. India's previous highest was 316-7 (in 47.5 overs) against Pakistan at Dhaka on 18-1-1998 and its previous highest in a WC match was 289-6 in 50 overs against Australia at Delhi in the 1987 WC.

• It was also India's highest total in any LOI match in England. The previous best being 282-5 in 53 overs against England at Nottingham on 20-7-1990.

• Also for the first time in England a team has crossed the 300-run mark in a 50-over LOI match. The closest any team has done so has been England when it scored 292-8 against Pakistan on 31-8-1996.

• Joseph Angara by conceding 66 runs in just 7 overs has the worst seven-over spell by any bowler in the WC. The previous worst spell came from Tim De Leede of Holland who had conceded 58 runs in his seven over spell against New Zealand at Baroda in the 1996 WC.

• Sachin Tendulkar by conceding 23 runs in one over joins Kiwi Martin Crowe and Sri Lankans Vinothan John and Ravi Ratnayeke as the other bowlers who have conceded maximum runs in a one over in a WC match.

• Tendulkar now joins fellow Indian Chetan Sharma (v New Zealand at Delhi on 3-11-1994) to become the only second bowler in LOI history to concede maximum runs in a one-over spell.

• The 118 run partnership between Kennedy Otieno and Steve Tikolo was Kenya's best for the third wicket in the WC. The previous best was 102 between Otieno and Maurice Odumbe against Australia at Visakhapatnam in the 1996 WC. It was also Kenya's best agasinst India for any wicket and for the third wicket. The previous bests were the 100 runs for the fourth wicket between Odumbe and Hitesh Modi at Gwalior on 28-5-1998 and 96 runs between Tikolo and Odumbe at Cuttack on 18-2-1996, respectively.

• Debasis Mohanty's 4-56 was the best performance by an Indian bowler on debut in the WC.The previous best was achieved by Ravi Shastri who had figures of 3-26 against West Indies at Manchester in 1983. Incidentally it was Mohanty's best bowling figures in his LOI career. His previous best was 3-15 which came against Pakistan at Toronto on 14-9-1997.

• India's 94 run victory was its best in terms of runs in a 50-over WC match. The previous best was the 56 run victory against Australia at Delhi in the 1987 WC. However India's best victory in any WC match still remains as 118 runs against Australia at Chelmsford in 1983. This was a 60-over match.

• Sachin Tendulkar won his 33rd man of the match award of his career. It was his fifth such award in a WC match. He now joins Viv Richards (WI) and Graham Gooch (Eng) with maximum five Man of the awards in the WC.
