Drop Robin Singh, bring in Mohanty
Venkatakrishnan Kalyanar
I think so it would be advisable to use Srinath at the very start of the innings for eight overs at a stretch. If you stastically analyse his performances, his first spell has always been good for India. His second or his third spell has always been for the opponents.
It is a pity that a bowler who has played over 100 ODIs and having more than 100 wickets cannot figure out till now how to bowl in the later part of the innings. If you have to take full advantage of his bowling, it is towards the start of the innings where in he can get a wicket or two if he is used for eight overs rather than five, thereby making it easy for the others to keep up the pressure.
Also, we can drop Robin Singh to bring in Mohanty. I think so there is sufficient depth in the batting line-up with Kumble, Agarkar and Srinath coming after Mongia. One can use Agarkar in the role of Robin Singh when it comes to batting. I've heard that Agarkar is no rabbit with the bat. Also, in order to get the opponents out you need five regular bowlers not four. This would be more so when we have do not have a tall score. It is much easier to attack an opponent when you have five regular bowlers.
Looking at the English conditions it not just enough to strengthen your batting, but you should have the necessary resources when it comes to bowling to take advantage of the conditions.
This does not mean one should not use Saurav, Tendulkar or Jadeja. Use them to get four to six overs as it will give the necessary insurance when one of the bowlers get creamed during the end.
I think the Indian team should be happy with their performance against South Africa. They were not beaten hands down. If Rhodes had not got 17 in that over, they would either way have got them the next couple of overs.
Also the decision to bat first was correct. As it would be difficult to chase a score 250 to 270 against the Sout African bowling. The only way was to score around 235 to 270 and use our bowling to get them out.
