Scoring 178 in 43 overs against a modest Kenyan attack was always going to be easy for England.
Rediff.com's expert thought that England, with Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood, were good to get even 100 more runs.
England's innings therefore opened with a pressure index (PI) of just 28.
When captain Michael Vaughan went early the PI rose to 36. At 52/2, when Thomas Odoyo dismissed Ian Bell, it was again 36.
But as Ed Joyce and Pietersen got down to work, the PI dropped further. At 119/2 after 20 it was 26; and at 148/2 in 25, the PI was just 17.
This match proved that Pietersen is still England's best batsman. It also proves Joyce could capture the slot vacated by Marcus Trescothick and that Vaughan doesn't really fit into England's ODI team.
But that was true of Mike Brearley and England's Test team some 30 years ago too.
