Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe, East London

• During their opening stand of 41 runs, Marvan Atapattu and Sanath Jayasuriya took their partnership aggregate for the first wicket past 3000 runs for the first wicket. They now become the fifth opening pair in LOI history to do so after Indians Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar  (5585 runs, avg.  49.42); West Indians Gordon Greenidge and DL Haynes (5150, 52.55); Australians Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh (3851,  41.41) and  David Boon and Geoff Marsh (3524, 40.05). Atapattu and Jayasuriya have now aggregated 3010 runs (avg. 48.55) in 64 innings.
• The second wicket stand of 83 runs between Atapattu and Avishka Gunawardene was Sri Lanka's best partnership against Zimbabwe for the second wicket in the World Cup. Atapattu and Roshan Mahanama had put on 62 for this wicket in the 1999 World Cup at Worcester.
• Atapattu's 103 not out was the eighth World Cup hundred made against Zimbabwe. However, it was the first by a Sri Lankan batsman. Aravinda deSilva had made 91 at SSC, Colombo on 21-2-1996.
• This was Atapattu's maiden hundred against Zimbabwe in 20 matches. His previous highest was the 92 he made at Sharjah on 26-10-2001.
• This was Atapattu's 10th hundred in LOIs and his second in the World Cup (he had made 124 v South Africa at Durban on 3-3-2003).  He joins Indian Sourav Ganguly with two hundreds in this World Cup.
• Atapattu now has 368 runs in this World Cup, the second most by any Sri Lankan batsmen in a single World Cup tournament. Teammate Aravinda deSilva had made 448 runs in 6 matches in the 1996 edition of the World Cup.
• Atapattu 's unbeaten 103 was the highest individual score for Sri Lanka at this venue. Hashan Tillekeratne had made 68 not out against New Zealand on 18-12-1994.
• Atapattu became the first Sri Lankan batsman and the 10th overall to carry his bat through the entire allocation of overs in the World Cup. He joins Zimbabwean Craig Wishart and Canadian Ishwar Maraj to become the third batsman in this World Cup to do so.
• The 52-run partnership between Atapattu and Kumar Sangakkara was Sri Lanka's best for the fourth wicket at this ground. Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene had put on 39 against South Africa on 17-12-2000.
• The two catches by Grant Flower has taken his tally of catches to 76 in 199 matches, which makes him the Zimbabwean fielder with most catches in a career in LOIs. He went past the previous record of 75 catches (in 187 matches) held by Alistair Campbell.
• The partnership of 36 runs between Craig Wishart and Dougie Marillier was Zimbabwe's best for the first wicket against Sri Lanka in the World Cup obliterating the previous best of 30 runs put on between Andy Flower and Wayne James at New Plymouth in the 1992 World Cup.
• Jayasuriya and deSilva, with 14 catches each, in all World Cups are the joint holders of most catches by a Sri Lankan fielder in the World Cup.
• Sanath Jayasuriya's 3-30 equals Sri Lanka's best bowling performance against Zimbabwe in a World Cup match.
• Former pace bowler Pramodaya Wickremasinghe had identical figures at Worcester on 22-5-1999.
• Incidentally, Jayasuriya's 3-30 was also the best by a Sri Lankan captain in the World Cup. Arjuna Ranatunga had figures of 2-31 against Kenya at Kandy in the 1996 World Cup.
• The two wickets by Chamida Vaas has taken his tally to 20 in this World Cup. He now equals the all-time record for the most wickets in a single World Cup, held by Kiwi left-arm pace bowler Geoff Allott and Australian leggie Shane Warne in the 1999 World Cup.
• Sri Lanka have won all its four World Cup matches against Zimbabwe, and have also won seven matches in a row against this opponent since 21-10-2000.
