Indian techies to be hailed at Asha Bhosle show in Newark

Krishen Oberoi wants to make Asha Bhosle's day.

"We are promoting her concert the best way possible," he says, referring to Saturday's 'Artist of the Millennium' concert in Newark, New Jersey.

"She is singing in many cities, but we hope her performance in New Jersey this weekend will get the best reception."

A legend like Asha Bhosle needs to be performing in a hall that makes her comfortable and is a convenient location for the audience, he says.

Showbiz is not anything new to Oberoi, brother of well-known Hindi film actor Suresh Oberoi. He has also produced two Hindi movies, including the recent Khotey Sikkey.

Oberoi's company, Rhythm of Life Inc, will be offering more mega events in the course of the year. He says his partners, including Pragati Pandey, and his sponsors, including Silverline Technologies and the Inteli Group, want to ensure that the Asha Bhosle show is publicized the best way.

"There is tremendous awareness of the show," he continues, adding that the fact that her songs in Taal and Takshak are super hits is contributing to the excitement for the event.

The show, which also includes the crowd-pleaser Sudesh Bhosle, is being held at the Newark Symphony Hall, and will start at 2000 EST.

"The show is not only a tribute to one of the best singers of all time," he says, "it is also a tribute to Indian software programmers and technicians who silently worked in India and in America to overcome the Y2K challenge."

"They have not received the kind of recognition they deserve for their tremendous work," he adds, saying that he will make the announcement about dedicating the show to the Indian techies.

"If we also do not honour them, who else will give them credit and honour them?"

Oberoi is also known for his role as a master of ceremonies for a number of events, and this was one of the reasons Yashpal Soi, who has organised many Asha Bhosle shows, asked him to organise the New York-New Jersey event.

"One of the reasons we chose to hold the show in Newark and not at a place like the Nassau Coliseum is that it is far easier for people in New York and New Jersey to reach this venue," he says.

"You attend an excellent show, you are excited, but then you think of the long, long journey to get back home," he says with a chuckle, "and slowly the excitement begins to go away."

"We do not want such a thing to happen to our show."
