Hotel rates in Port Blair:

  • Andaman Beach Resort, the only beach hotel, offers its room tariff.

    Tariff valid from October 1 till further notice:

    • The tariff for an air conditioned single room is Rs 1,850, plus taxes per night.

    • The tariff for an air conditioned double room is Rs 2,600, plus taxes per night.

    • The tariff for a cottage is Rs 3,000, plus taxes per night.

    Children below 12, not requiring an extra bed, will not be charged. Children requiring an extra bed will be charged Rs 400, plus taxes per night. An extra person will be charged Rs 400, plus taxes per night.

    The same tariff will be charged from foreign passport holders.

    Its facilities: a restaurant, a bar, a tennis court, scuba diving, kayaking, wind surfing, fishing, a foreign exchange desk, a travel desk, conference facilities and indoor games.

  • Hotel Sinclairs Bay View, Port Blair offers a package till September 30.

    An air conditioned double room will cost Rs 1,039 per person, per night, on a twin sharing basis. Children below 12 years will not be charged. Persons above 12 years will be charged Rs 731, per person, per night.

    The package includes a welcome drink, breakfast, airport transfers and taxes. There will also be a 20 per cent discount on meals. A minimum stay of three days is required. The fourth day is complimentary, but with no breakfast.

Indian Airlines connects Port Blair to Calcutta and Madras.

The flight departs Calcutta at 0500 hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and reaches Port Blair at 0700 hours. The one way economy class fare between Calcutta and Port Blair is Rs 5,850.

The flight departs Madras at 0530 hours on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and reaches Port Blair at 0735 hours.The one way economy class fare between Madras and Port Blair is Rs 5,920.

It is also possible to reach Port Blair by ship from Madras, Vishakhapatnam or Calcutta. Ships of the Shipping Corporation of India ply on this route every one of two weeks. The journey is four days long and passage and accommodation in a cabin is available for about Rs 3,000.

Siliguri stopover?

Hotel Cindrella, a three star hotel in Siliguri, West Bengal, offers its tariffs for the year. The hotel is 16 km from the Bagdogra airport and eight kms from the New Jalpaiguri railway station.

West Bengal Tourism offers comfortable accommodation in the beach town of Digha, outside Calcutta and at nearby Bakkhali. The white beaches at Digha, shaded by casuarina trees are some of the finest and emptiest beaches on the east coast of India

The tariff for double rooms at the Digha Tourist Lodge runs from Rs 200 to Rs 500 per night. At the Bakkhali Tourist Lodge the tariff for double rooms for Rs 200 per night. Beds are available at the dormitory at Saikatabash Youth Hostel and at Digha for Rs 60-65 per night.

Winter at Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary in Dooars, West Bengal, the home of the one-horned rhinoceros, the Indian bison, leopard, tiger, elephants and a variety of birds. There are tourist lodges at Malbazar and Hollong too.

Marks and Meadows, a new four-star hotel has opened in Shanti Niketan outside Calcutta.

An 'eco-friendly resort', run by Marks Hotels and Resorts in cooperation with the tourism department of the West Bengal government, the hotel offers standard air-conditioned rooms for Rs 950 per night and deluxe air conditoned rooms for Rs 1200 per night. The rooms are located in cottages set amidst five acres of greenery and 32 rooms are available.

While the hotel is open for booking, certain facilities of the resort are not yet complete. An in-house restaurant serving Indian food is open. A bar, a swimming pool, and a health club are due for completion in a few months. And eventually the restaurant will provide Indian continental and Chinese food and the hotel will offer facilities like badminton courts, table tennis tables and a children's park.
