Accessible by road from Madurai and Kottayam. The drive up from Madurai across the ghats affords some great scenery. So too for the drive from Kottayam.

Getting Around
Motor launches run every two hours on the lake from 07.00 to 15.00. It is a two hour trip. Wait for a uncrowded launch trip, perhaps an early morning one; it is well worth the wait. Otherwise get together with a few other tourists and try to book a small boat from Aranya Nivas Hotel, a KTDC resort (you can usually find tourists waiting there) near the picnic area. Elephants can take you about the park too. Arrange with the information centre. There are special viewing platforms in the park where a guide can take you. Bicycles are also available for hire at Kumily.
