Srinath will need two months to recover

Javagal Srinath has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India that Dr Mark Fergusson, his orthopaedic surgeon in South Africa, has advised him to undergo a rehabiliation programme for the next two months.

Since the speedster will not rejoin the Indian team in the West Indies, the way is clear for another fast bowler, possibly Salil Ankola of Bombay, to join the touring party..

Board secretary Jagmohan Dalmiya told reporters in Calcutta on Tuesday that Srinath has told the BCCI that he would undergo arthoscopic surgery only if there is no remission of pain after the rehabilitation programme.

'The injury caused is not due to excessive cricket, but because of the fall in Toronto. The physical condition of a fast bowler is vulnerable and is most prone to injuries,' Srinath stated in his letter to the board.

The board has also received Dr Fergusson's report on Srinath's condition. The fast bowler is currently undergoing treatment in Johannesburg. Dr Fergusson has prescribed a rehabilitation programme for Srinath and has also provided a kit to perform the exercises needed to repair his injury.
