Armaan Ebrahim claimed his second victory of the season by pocketing the feature race while finishing second in the sprint event in the Formula Renault V6 Asia series at the Sepang International Circuit on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Chennai lad, driving for Black Tara, started second on the grid in the 15-lap race and maintained his lead all the way to the chequered flag on a difficult track which had streaks of slippery areas due to slight drizzle midway through the race.
Armaan drove into the lead into the first corner, and from there on it was a tight race with James Grunwell and Earl Bamber of The Pizza Company Team Qi-Mertus following him closely in the first few laps.
Armaan, runners-up in the championship last year, withstood the pressure from Grunwell and Bamber to emerge winner.
"We had a close battle for some time but there was always a little gap. It was a good tight race, I needed that. I'm confident now for Indonesia, we need to change a few things but the team did a fantastic job getting the car right, its really good to drive and I thank the team," said Armaan at the post race press conference.
Armaan is just one point behind leader Grunwell (47 points) in the Championship while Earl Bamber in third at 43 points.
The Series continues at Sentul International Circuit, Indonesia, July 18-20.
