Despite a win and a draw against Chinese Taipei last month, India slipped two places to 153rd in the latest FIFA rankings.
India, which has 136 points in its kitty, now shares the spot with Tajikistan, which also features in the AFC Challenge Cup in Hyderabad next month.
The South Asian champions had beaten Chinese Taipei 3-0 in the first friendly on May 24 before playing out a 2-2 draw three days later.
Western neighbours Pakistan jumped one place to 160th while Bangladesh slipped three places to 183rd.
Among the AFC members, Australia toppled Japan [Images] (38th) to occupy 35th spot, followed by Korea Republic (45th).
Argentina still tops the overall list, ahead of Brazil [Images] and Italy [Images]. Spain, Germany [Images], Czech Republic, France [Images], Greece, England [Images] and the Netherlands take the remaining eight places in that order, in the top ten.
The only change in the top 10 is England, which gained two places to number nine at the expense of Portugal, which slipped to 11.
