Australian Lleyton Hewitt [Images] was involved in a record-breaking doubles match on Monday when he and partner Chris Guccione beat Agustin Calleri and Juan Monaco of Argentina 4-6, 7-6, 18-16.

The match, which lasted three hours 17 minutes, surpassed the record amount of games in a best of three set men's match at the Olympics [Images] since tennis returned to the Games in 1988.

The previous record also belonged to Australians when Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde beat Dutch pair Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis 6-2 5-7 18-16 in 1996.

Earlier in the day Hewitt beat veteran Swede Jonas Bjorkman 7-5 7-6 in the first round of the men's singles.
