Chetan Anand falls at final hurdle

Chetan Anand's dream of claiming his first Grand Prix title was crushed with the final match defeat at Yonex Sunrise India Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament against Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Anand, the reigning national champion, lost 16-21, 12-21 in the men's singles event.

Mi Zhou of Hong Kong emerged champion in the women's category as she pipped Chinese Lan Lu 21-14, 21-14 in the final match.

Chinese pair of Zhendong Guo and Zhogbo Xie took away the men's doubles title after beating Choon Eng Chew and Chong Ming Chan of Malaysia 19-21, 21-14, 21-12.

Yu Chin Chien and Wen Hsing Cheng of Taipei took the honours in the women's doubles category by defeating Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna of Japan [Images] 21-17, 21-16 in their final match.

In mixed doubles, Chinese pair of Hanbin He and Yang (F) Yu claimed the title after thrashing Kristof Hopp and Birgit Overzier of Germany [Images] 21-18, 21-9.
