Paes-Stosur in last eight

Leander Paes and his Australian partner Samantha Stosur earned a quarter-final berth at the Australian Open mixed doubles competition after a 6-3, 6-4 victory over South African Chris Haggard and Elini Daniilidou of Greece, in Melbourne, on Wednesday.

The third-seeded Indo-Australian pair prevailed in just under an hour to set up a clash with

Canadian Daniel Nestor and Russia's Elena Likhovtseva, who beat the Australian team of Stephen Huss and Monique Adamczak 6-1, 6-4.

Paes and Stosur capitalized on both their break points while their opponents squandered the four they got.

Earlier in the day, Paes' former partner Mahesh Bhupathi bowed out of the men's doubles competition.

Bhupathi and Radek Stepanek lost in te quarter-finals to Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi of Belarus.

The second seeded pair needed just over an hour to get the better of the Indo-Czech combination 6-3, 6-2.

Rupesh Roy enters doubles semis

In boys' doubles quarter-finals, the eighth seeded pair of Rupesh Roy of India and Stephen Donald of Australia beat top seeds Roman Jebavy of Czech Republic and Martin Klizan of Slovakia 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(5).
