Shikha Uberoi's campaign at the Sunfeast Open ended in anti-climax on Friday after her Hungarian partner Melinda Czink was forced to pull out midway through the doubles semi-final due to indisposition.
The Indo-Hungarian team conceded the match to the third seeded Ukrainian pair of Yulia Beygelzimer and Yuliana Fedak after going down 3-6 in the opening set.
"Czink had to retire due to a viral illness. She had the problem even before the match began, but thought she could take to the court despite that," a WTA official told newspersons.
Shikha and Czink had on Thursday night upset the second seeded combination of Nicole Pratt and Anastassia Rodionova 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 4-6 to reach the last four stage of the US $175,000 WTA tier III event.
In the singles, Shikha -- a wild card entrant -- went out of contention in the opening round itself, losing to Czech girl Hana Sromova.
The US-based Shikha had reached the doubles final partnering her sister Neha in the maiden edition of the tournament last year before losing out to the crack Russian duo of Anastasia Myskina [Images] and Elena Likhovtseva.
