Masters Cup holder and world No. 4 David Nalbandian has confirmed his participation for the 2007 Chennai Open. The tournament, in its 12th year, will be held at the SDAT Stadium at Nungambakkam from January 1 to 7.
Tournament Director Fernando Soler said, "David's confirmation to participate in the Chennai Open 2007, is a coup and a wonderful opportunity for sports fans to watch the defending Champion of last year's Shanghai World Masters Cup and one of the most consistent players on the ATP tour from close quarters. Confirmation from a player of his potential so much in advance will definitely go a long way in attracting good talent and making Chennai Open 2007, a roaring success."
In 2005, the Argentine finished in Top 10 for third consecutive season capped off by winning the biggest title of his career at season-ending Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai.
Nalbandian came into the Masters Cup in Shanghai (in place of injured Roddick) and captured the title by winning four of the five matches, overcoming a two-sets deficit in the final to beat Roger Federer [Images] in a fifth set tie-break.
He thus became the first Argentine to win year-end championships since 1974 when Guillermo Vilas won Masters Title. He has won 5 ATP titles and has a career singles record of 207-101.
