Jung finishes 51st in World Cup

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Samresh Jung came up with another woeful performance, finishing 51st in the men's 50 metres Free Pistol event at the shooting World Cup in Milan, Italy [Images].

Jung, who is going through a rough phase after his huge success in the Melbourne Games earlier this year, shot a series of 92, 90, 91, 92, 89 and 91 to total 545 points.

Viraj Kawan, another Indian in the fray in the same event, finished 58th, shooting 541 (90, 94, 89, 90, 89, 89), whlie Satendra Kumar managed 536 (90, 92, 87, 88, 88, 91). Both could not qualify for the elimination round.

Ronak Pandit shot 543 (88, 90, 94, 94, 89, 88) and Vivek Singh 533 (87, 89, 91, 89, 88, 89) in the minimum qualification score section.

Chinese shooter Xu Kun bagged the gold medal with a score of 660.5 (570+90.5). The silver and the Olympic quota place went to Pavol Kopp of Slovakia. Thailand's Jakkrit Panichpatikum won the bronze.

Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Sanjeev Rajput had to be satisfied with a poor 49th place finish in men's 50 metre Free Rifle Prone event. He shot 578 (98, 93, 96, 98, 96 and 97).

With 698.4 points, Olympic bronze medallist Sergei Martymov of Belarus clinched the gold in this event. Russian Viatcheslav Botchkarev won the silver while Mario Knoegler of Austria claimed the bronze.
