A five-minute blitz from JCT destroyed Mohan Bagan as the visitors romped home 2-0 in a fourth round National Football League tie in Kolkata on Wednesday.
JCT now moved on to five points from four matches while Mohan Bagan remained on two from as many games.
JCT's first goal came 33 minutes into the match when Nigerian Julius Akpele sent a brilliant long ball that Parveen Kumar latched on to cut inside the rival box and flicked a measured pass that Johnson Banner volleyed home.
Every time JCT surged upfront Bagan defence looked to be falling apart. They gave away free kicks, miss passed in crucial moments and within four minutes of the first goal Bagan succumbed yet again.
This time it was Renedy Singh to send a through to Parveen Kumar who sprinted from 30 yards and slaughtered the ball home into the near post with Sanjeev Maria hanging on to his neck 2-0.
Maria was injured while trying to thwart Parveen Kumar and had to be replaced by Feroz.
Mohan Bagan looked pathetic in every department of the game and even as the mill-men settled down to a fine rhythm with Julius, Marcus, Johnson and Parveen Kumar forming a golden quadrangle.
Mohan Bagan's cup of wooes continued to overflow in the second half as substitutions in form of Coffi Agbessi, who replaced Sushil Kumar [Images] and Debendyu Biswas, who replaced Rajiv Ahmed, surely lacked class.
Naturally, it did not change the fate of the game.
Only time Mohan Bagan got close to scoring in this match was in the 10th minute when a double effort from Dharamjit Singh and Ibrahim was thwarted by JCT goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey. - UNI
