Star footballer I M Vijayan, who allegedly attacked six persons on August 13 after trespassing into their room, is absconding after police booked a case against him for a non-bailable offence.
T Chandran, Thrissur Superintendent of Police, said that a case under section 452 (trespassing) of the IPC had been lodged against the footballer who, he said, trespassed into the room of some bar workers on Sunday night and attacked them, reportedly in retaliation for their ill-treatment of his nephew.
"Vijayan is absconding and we are searching for him and this is a non-bailable offence," police said.
Angered at the shoddy treatment meted out to his nephew in the Bini Tourist home earlier on that day, Vijayan and his friends allegedly attacked the six bar workers with weapons.
They were hospitalised and later discharged, police added.
