The country's leading skaters will feature in the inaugural Annual All India Skating Championship that will be held at the Acres Club in Chembur, Mumbai from April 20 to 22.
The championship, which will bring together over 1000 skaters, is being organised by India Skates, formed by a group of parents of local skaters, under the auspices of the Skating Association of Maharashtra (SAM) and the Roller Skating Federation of India.
The championship, which features skaters aged 4 years and above, also includes formidable skaters like Pune's 16-year-old Akash Khatri who featured in the Asian Championship, 24-year-old Abbas Lasania and 20-year-old Subodh Patil of Hyderabad, 19-year-old Khushboo Saini of Haryana, 16-year-old Ashween Kaur of Maharashtra, 17-year-old Sasa Dabholkar of Mumbai and 24-year-old Monish Lokhandwala of Mumbai, who earned the 500m Speed silver at the Asian Championship in Taiwan.
Among the top states in skating are Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
The highlight of the 1st Annual All India Skating Championship are, the 200m Dash-for-Cash and Super Dash races that will mark the grand finale.
The top six from age groups 8 years and above will feature in the Dash-for-Cash, while the elite six boys and girls will feature in the Super Dash.
The races will be held from 6.30 am IST to 1.30 pm on all three days of the championship, which includes three categories, Quads, Inline and Adjustable.
Following this spectacular competition, India Skates has lined up a series of similar skating events all through the year in its effort to promote safe, fun skating.
Apart from the competition, workshops by professionals will be conducted on skating techniques, diet and yoga. Professor P K Singh also will organise a special workshop for beginners.
