Sarita Lakra scored two goals as India defeated Scotland 3-1 to capture 11th place in the women's Junior World Cup Hockey [Images] tournament in Satiago, Chile.
Indians managed to find the net within five minutes of the start when Lakra gave them 1-0 lead by knocking in a pass from skipper Jasjeet Kaur Handa into an empty goal.
But Scotland worked their way into the game when Laura Wrightson scored off of Holly Cram's pass in the 29th minute sending the two teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
In the second half, Lakra was back to business when a long pass into the circle hit the post and landed at her feet. She quickly put it past Scotland keeper Catherine Rae for a 2-1 lead in the 43rd minute.
Anjum Saba secured the victory for India by scoring the final goal in the 62nd minute.
Indias 11th place finish, which is two places below their ninth place showing in 2001, could be attributed to their inability to score multiple goals in a match throughout the tournament. They drew four of their six matches during the league stage.
