Meanwhile, Olympic silver medallist Francis Obikwelu had a measure of revenge over champion Justin Gatlin by winning the 100 meters.
The Portuguese clocked 10.05 seconds, finishing ahead of Olympic 200 meters champion Shawn Crawford, who timed 10.14 seconds. Gatlin also timed 10.14 but was edged out in a photo-finish. Gatlin had beaten the Nigerian-born Obikwelu at the Athens Olympics [Images].
The men's 110 meters hurdles was won by European champion Stanislavs Olijars with a year's best time of 13.11 seconds. He finished ahead of Olympic silver medallist Terrence Trammell of the United States in 13.18 seconds.
Qatar's 3000 meters steeplechase world champion Saif Saeed Shaheen's made a brave attempt to establish a new record in a non-Olympic event, the 2000 meters steeplechase. But the Kenyan-born athlete failed by a whisker, clocking 5:14.53 seconds against the 15-year-old mark of 5:14.42 set by Kenya's Julius Kiriuki in Riveto, Italy, in 1990.
