Teen tennis sensation Sania Mirza [Images] touched a career-high ranking of 72, climbing one spot, in the latest WTA rankings released on Monday.
The Indian ace, who has received a wild card to play in the French Open, is recovering from an ankle injury which forced her to miss India's campaign in the recent Fed Cup tennis tournament.
The 18-year-old, who turned professional in 2003, is fast catching up with Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn, who is ranked 68.
Sania has a win-loss record of 10-4 this year, with career prize-money earnings of US $129,109.
Despite the nagging injury which troubled her, the year saw Sania win her first WTA title in Hyderabad after putting up a brave fight against eventual winner Serena Williams [Images] in the third round of the Australian Open.
In March, she upset of No.4 seed Svetlena Kuznetsova in the Dubai Open. Her last tournament was as a wild card in Miami [Images], where she lost to Sanchez Lorenzo in the first round.
