Top seeds Mahesh Bhupathi [Images] of India and Todd Woodbridge of Australia [Images] stopped short of reaching the final of the Gerry Weber Open when they retired half-way through their doubles semi-final in Halle, Germany [Images].
Bhupathi and Woodbridge were trailing 5-7 against Swiss pair of Yves Allegro and Roger Federer [Images] in their semi-final match in the grass court event, when Bhupathi was forced to quit after complaining of back pain.
Interestingly, both the pairs had reached the last four stage after walkovers by their respective opponents in the quarter-finals.
Allegro and Federer set up a title clash with Joaschim Jonathan of Sweden and Marat Safin [Images] of Russia [Images], who reached the finals after they got a walkover from Jiri Novak and Petr Pala of Czech Republic.
