I am making too many changes: Ferguson

October 19, 2004 16:49 IST

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said he had picked the wrong teams at times this season.

"Maybe at the moment I am making too many changes," Ferguson told British newspapers ahead of United's Champions League clash with Sparta Prague later on Tuesday.

"There's no doubt we have got the players, but at the moment I am picking the wrong teams for a variety of reasons," Ferguson told reporters in Prague.

United are sitting pretty at the top of Champions League Group D, with four points from two games, but their form in domestic competition has been mediocre.

Ferguson's team have won only three of their nine Premier League matches this season and are sixth in the table, already 11 points adrift of runaway leaders Arsenal.

"We are not getting any consistency and that is definitely affecting our performances," Ferguson said.

United have an opportunity to close the gap on bitter rivals Arsenal when the league leaders travel to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Champions Arsenal, though, will be aiming to extend their remarkable unbeaten league run to 50 matches.
