Chelsea and England defender John Terry signed a revised five-year contract to stay with the English Premier League leaders until 2009, the club announced.

The captain signed his previous deal in July last year and helped Chelsea to second place in the Premier League and a semi-final slot in the Champions League.

"I have been here since I was 14 and I would love to stay at Chelsea for the rest of my career and hopefully I'll do that because I love playing for the club," he told the club's official website.

"I only signed last year but I had a chat with (chief executive) Peter Kenyon at the end of last season and people who have been in since.

Terry, who will be 28 when his contract expires, said the arrival of Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho had been another factor in his decision.

"He's been a key figure in it really. He's come in and he's made me the club captain this year, so on the pitch things are going well," he added.
