Mauresmo and Coria in second round
May 26, 2004 10:44 IST
They may not be the most talked about players in Paris but Guillermo Coria and Amelie Maursemo, both in action in the French Open second round on Wednesday, could be considered the tournament's favourites.
Coria won the Monte Carlo Masters before losing the Hamburg Masters final to Roger Federer and the third-seeded Argentine has been the most successful claycourt player this season.
A semi-finalist at Roland Garros last year, Coria will meet compatriot Juan Monaco, a qualifier whose name will remind the Argentine of his biggest victory to date.

Were she looking for omens, France's Mauresmo, her country's best hope to win the tournament in years, would be rather worried about her second-round clash with Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues following her victory over Slovak Ludmila Cervanova.
Mauresmo, winner in Rome and Berlin in recent weeks, beat the same two players in succession in the early stages of the Australian Open.
The Frenchwoman later pulled out from the first grand slam tournament of the season with a shoulder injury.
World number one Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium takes on Italy's Tathiana Garbin on Court Suzanne Lenglen while U.S. Open champion Andy Roddick plays Frenchman Olivier Mutis in the last match on centre court.
