Delhi's Ankita Bhambri stormed into the semifinals with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 upset win over top seed Isha Lakhani in the $10,000 ITF Women's Championship at the LB stadium tennis complex at Hyderabad on Thursday.
Ankita was on a song right from the word go, and troubled the top seed with her slicing low shots over the net to win the first set 6-4.
Isha fought back in the second set without giving any room and scope to her opponent to put up a fight and notched up a convincing 6-2 win.
However, in the decider Ankita romped home with some power play. Ankita's quick returns and deft placements baffled the top seed as the Delhi girl won the third set to enter the last four stage.
In another quarterfinal match, Rushmi Chakraborty outplayed Lisa Tognetti of Italy by a crafty display of quality tennis to take the first set 7-5.
The Italian lass was no match to the experience of Rushmi who settled the issue by taking the second set 6-4.
Sandy Gumulya of Indonesia trounced Giorgia Mortello of Italy while Tomoyo Takagisi of Japan defeated Sai Jayalakshmi to complete the semifinal line up.
