Rach upset with media criticism
December 02, 2004 15:35 IST
Coach Gerhard Rach has lashed out at the media for its negative coverage of the Indian hockey saying the Indians were trying their best and had the potential to become unbeatable.
"The media should not always be negative. It should also write positive things about us. This will boost the morale of the players," Rach told reporters at the Premier Hockey League launch show in New Delhi on Wednesday night.
Perhaps, we are not level with some teams right now, but the boys are trying real hard," he said.
"After all, you can't build a house in one day."
The German was full of praise for his boys. "Each member of the team has the ability to become a world-class player. I am working with them and they have the potential to become unbeatable," he said.
"In fact, they are practicing so hard, that I have to keep them away from the field. They are mentally strong and they know how good they are. We certainly don't need a psychologist to know that," Rach said.
Evidently, Rach was not amused by media criticism of India's performance against Spain in the two-Test hockey series this week.
"We had a terrific game against Spain and the result is not always the main thing," Rach said referring to India's loss to Spain at Chandigarh last Sunday, in which the home team squandered a two-goal advantage to eventually lose 2-3 to the Europeans.
Both teams split the Test series with one win apiece after India managed a 3-2 revenge win over Spain on Tuesday.
