Rifle shooter Anjali Bhagwat's disappointing show at the Athens Olympics came to an end on Friday when she finished 13th and failed to qualify for the final of the women's 50 metre rifle three-positions target.
Anjali, who finished a poor 20th in her pet event 10m Air Rifle after being touted as a bright medal hope, put up another below par performance to finish joint 13th with a tally of 575 points in a field of 32.
The second Indian in the fray, Deepali Deshpande, was 19th with 572 points.
The duo's early exit brought the curtains down on the Indian challenge at the Markopoulo Shooting Centre which saw Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore winning a historic silver medal in men's double trap.
Russia's Lioubov Galkina won the gold medal after setting an Olympic record for the final round.
Galkina fired a final 101.4, which was added to her 587 points in the qualifying round, for a total score of 688.4.
Valentina Turisini of Italy took the silver medal with a score of 685.9 points while Wang Chengyi of China won the bronze medal with a score of 685.4.
Olga Dovgun of Kazakhstan had led the field after the qualifying with a score of 588, one point ahead of Galkina. But Dovgun slipped with the worst round of any of the eight finalists, getting just 96.9 points, to end up fourth.
