Mohd. Sporting stun Churchill

April 05, 2004 20:48 IST

Churchill Brothers' title hopes in the National Football League suffered a jolt when they went down to lowly-placed Mohammedan Sporting 0-2 at the Nehru stadium in Margao, Goa, on Sunday.

The Kolkata outfit shot into the lead in the 37th minute through Rahim Nabi, who converted an Amandeep Singh pass.

Okoli Onyeka Odofa squandered two clear chances to increase the lead, but he settled the issue in the 80th minute by tapping home after beating the on-rushing keeper with the entire Churchill defence stranded.

For Mohammedan Sporting, who have 18 points from 17 matches, it was sweet revenge as they had lost to Churchill 1-2 in the first leg.

Churchill are in third place with 29 points from 17 matches.
