Jugraj in Delhi enroute to US

September 28, 2003 16:36 IST

Hockey star Jugraj Singh, who suffered multiple injuries in a car crash early in October, was on Sunday brought to Delhi from Ludhiana, where he had been undergoing treatment.

The 20-year-old Punjab Police officer arrived in the afternoon in a helicopter provided by the Sahara Group and was received at the airport by IHF officials. He was later admitted to Batra Hospital for further treatment.

"We are taking steps to send him to the United States at the earliest. The medical board of the US Olympic Council has agreed to take care of Jugraj, who will be sent there as soon as all the formalities are completed," IHF chief protocol officer Suresh Sharma told PTI in Delhi.

"The medical facilities available in Delhi are much better than in Ludhiana. Moreover, it will also serve as a transit point for Jugraj since it would be more comfortable for him to fly to the US from here than from any other place," Sharma said.
