Star hockey player Jugraj Singh, who will be shortly discharged from Ludhiana's Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, will be shifted to Delhi for treatment of the injury to his right elbow, which broke into seven pieces during a recent accident.

However, Singh is not sure of where he would be sent for further treatment, including physiotherapy. The only thing that had been conveyed to him was that the Union government would bear the expenses of his treatment abroad. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and IOA have also assured that if needed the hockey star would be sent abroad for further treatment.

The penalty corner specialist sustained multiple-fracture in a car crash in Jalandhar recently, owing to which he missed the eight-nation Asia Cup hockey tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Former hockey captain Ramandeep Singh, who is looking after Jugraj's treatment, said Indian Hockey Federation vice-president Dr Narinder Batra had told him that the drag flicker would be initally shifted to Batra Hospital in Delhi. There he would be treated for the injury to his right elbow, which broke into seven pieces. The Sahara Group had offered their helicopter to transport Jugraj from Ludhiana to Delhi.

Head of the Dayanand Medical College J L Bassi, who had performed surgery on Jugraj, said the hospital is ready to discharge Jugraj for further treatment.

Jugraj expressed satisfaction with the performance of Indian team in the ongoing Asia Cup tournament. He said the team could not afford to miss any chances to score, especially against the formidable rivals.

"My team will certainly lift the cup in this tournament," he said with a light smile.
