IFA contemplate action against Bhowmick
September 17, 2003 18:04 IST
The Indian Football Association is contemplating "stern action" against East Bengal coach Subhas Bhowmick for his repeated outbursts against the association.
"We have been taking note of his repeated outbursts against the association. He has also hurled abuses against us in the media. We will take stern action against him," a senior IFA official said on Wednesday on condition of anonymity.
Bhowmick, who led East Bengal to the ASEAN Cup triumph in July recently, sharply criticised the IFA for continuing with the system of holding a play-off to decide the championship in the Kolkata Super Division football league.
"The people who run the soccer administration in the state are completely ignorant," Bhowmick had said.
On Tuesday, Bhowmick trained his guns on the IFA yet again, expressing his dissatisfaction with what he termed as "lenient" punishment meted out to star footballers of East Bengal and Mohun Bagan for their involvement in field violence and assault on the referee during the two clubs super six clash on September 4.
"What they have done is horrible. That is why I called them ignorant," Bhowmick said.
Annoyed at Bhowmick's remarks, the senior IFA official said: "Just wait and see what action we take against him. We will hold a meeting in the next two days... ."
