In an unprecedented move, the Indian Football Association punished 13 players of Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting and three officials for violence during matches, assault on referees and other offences committed during two Kolkata Super League matches.

The action came following a disciplinary committee meeting in Kolkata on Tuesday.

"We awarded punishment as per the intensity of offences committed by the players and officials to ensure proper conduct and discipline on the field," IFA secretary Subrata Dutta told newspersons.

While all the 13 players were imposed fines, ranging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 30,000, seven among them - four of Bagan, one of East Bengal and two Sporting players - were also suspended for a match.

Two Bagan defenders, Rishi Kapoor and Sanjib Maria, were earlier relieved by the IFA after examining video footage, while two others -- Sporting skipper Dipendu Biswas and Hussain Mustafi - were only cautioned.

Dutta said: "Those fined must pay up the amount by October 31, failing which they will remain on suspension till making the payment. They can, however, appeal before the IFA governing body within 24 hours after receiving the letter."

In all, six Bagan and four East Bengal players were brought to book for the September 4 derby clash fracas while three Sporting footballers were punished for ground violence during their tie against East Bengal on August 19.
